    '06 Sante w/ 330 PCM wont crank ( hydrolock?)

    We ran our boat for only 20 mins then put up on lift. Next AM it would not crank at all Sounds like seized engine. Storm the night before and found exhaust flap wedged inside. Possible high waves flooded exhaust and got sucked into manifold (hydrolock is it called?). Can I remove plugs and/or crank it clean ? waiting for dealership tech to come back to work after holiday weekend. Any advice? thanks, Bill

    pull the plugs and give it a short crank (1 second) engine should start to turn over. if there is water in the cylinders it will shoot the water out.

    if water comes out of the plug holes;

    drain the oil. change filter. refill. crank the engine over with plugs still out until all water is out of the plug holes (should only take 2-3 cranks). put plugs back in. start engine (in water or with hose attachment). run until normal operating temp. stop engine. drain oil again. change filter again.

    you should be good now if that was your problem

    hopefully for your sake the water was not in the engine for too long as it will f#$% your bearings.

    good luck.

      if no water comes out of the spark plug holes this is not your problem and probably a good thing.

      have you checked your breakers and fuses?

      can you hear the starter trying to engage?

            yeah...i got 'em out..dumbass question..just frustrated as S^&%##. Holiday weekend w/ guests and no F&#%^#^&'n boat. Anyway, took out the plugs (they do have moisture on them and not just fuel). Starter just spinning, (whirring noise)not cranking engine. Maybe block could have seized already and starter gear sounds stripped ?

              They seize up fast. Get an oil can and squirt oil into each cylinder. Roll the engine over with a flex handle and socket on the balancer. Better anyway...won't make such a mess.

                yes you can turn the motor over by hand (socket on the crank shaft bolt) it will not shoot the water as far is what he ment by not making as much of a mess. if all that was happening from the start was the starter was whirling, the problem is your starter.

                you can try and tap it with a hammer (not too hard) if the same thing happens, the solenoid is shot on the starter. take the starter off and take it to your auto parts store (pepboys or whatever you have in the usa) you can try and get just the solenoid, otherwise just buy a new starter ($100-$200).

                when you try the existing starter or the new starter i would say do it with the plugs removed. you may still have water in the cyls.

                if you are freaking out and want to get the boat on the water you can give me a call and i will try to help you out. i am not working right now due to sprained ankle.

                  That is what I meant...mainly the mess would be if he squirts oil in the cylinders to lube the rings. Water is not so messy.

                  If the motor isn't siezed and the plugs are out, you might be able to turn the engine by hand by grabbing onto a belt or using a socket on the alternator pulley...in case you don't have a big a55 socket for the crank. Engines with no plugs in them should turn over easily.

                    Plugs out ..I tried to turn belts/pulleys by hand but couldn't. I will get a socket and breaker bar to try and turn this AM.. NO, the original problem was it tried to crank a few times then seized (i think). now the starter will only whine when I tried to start it. Thanks for all the replies...
