    Sport Nautique Over Heating

Thought I would share this with the team,

Maden voyage of the year this weekend and all seemed well for about 15 min. Then my 1990 sport started to overheat to 220 degrees. WTF I thought , sitting in the middle of the river.

I always take the hose off of my strainer and put it into a bucket to make sure my water pump and impeller are sucking good.

Not knowing what else it could be I pulled the impeller out again and inspected. Put it all to gether and still nothing.

I sat there scratching my head pissed off. Call my father inlaw over and he said is the strainer clean? I said I dont know never touched it. As soon as I did I could feel that the bowl was loose. AIR LEAK right there. Pulled it off, cleaned and screwed in on tight. GOOD TO GO. Running at 140 now......

Just thought that might help some else down the line.

I just did this yesterday. First time out this year and was overheating. Got up to about 220 as well. Noticed the strainer was so loose I am surprised it didn't fall off entirely. Is there anything that I should do after the engine got up to 220 degrees? Is there a thermostat that needs to be changed? This was the first run with a new impeller and it had quite a bit of KY on it. Should I replace the impeller at this point? I am going to run it in the driveway to see if it still overheats. I am guessing it was the strainer being so loose. I should have checked the strainer before going out.
