    TFI module

I was talking a little while ago about some idle hunting problems on my 351 GT40. It was suggested that the problem was almost certainly the TFI module, or thick film ignition which is located on the distributor, I don't have access to the boat this second but want to order this part. Does anyone have a part number or a picture? I was on nautique parts.com and they have what they're calling a voltage regulator, its a small square silver shaped box with a wiring harness sticking out the side, its $50.00. Does this sound like the same thing to everyone? Thanks in advance.

What year is your GT40? I know on earlier build engines with the tubular upper intake manifold PCM had issues with idle hunt on many of the ECM units. Unfortunately if its the unit that is an is issue they are NLA. Hard to tell you without seeing the boat but it is another possibility.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

I've tried multiple different computers, this is not the issue, I just want to know about the TFI module. My boat is 1998 Super Sport. Thanks again everyone!

This might be what you are after. TFI is a really a term from the 80's back when Ford had a little silver ignition controler box on the fender well of most vehicles. They were a horrible design and I used to carry a spare as they would fail unexpectedly. Thick Film Insulated is what it stands for. The coil you have on your motor is a carry over from that design, but the ECM on your motor controls ignition and spark.

tfi is actualy the ignition module it is bolted to the distributor ats about 1 inch by 2 inch and about a 1/2 inch thick. the electrical connection for the distributor plugs into the tfi then the tfi connects to the distributor

Well only problem is this piece has nothing to do with controlling the idle, I would suggest you remove and clean the Idle air control and it's passage on the throttle plate.

look in the reference section and the PCM manual on page 2a-12 idle speed control-bypass air solenoid. This is the component causing the issue not the TFI aka ignition module.
