    Silicone for bunks

Thought about using food grade silicone on the bunks to make them slicker. Any issues doing this with the gelcoat long term???

    Thanks in advance.

The only problem I see with that is that if you trailer a lot, and dont tie down the back, the boat will slide side to side. Mine did that 2 boats ago with new carpet on the bunks.

Dish soap? Boot goo? You only need it on your forward bunks right?

          Liquid Rollers

West Marine sells a product called Liquid rollers. I used it a few years ago and as I backed down the ramp the boat slid off until it hit the prop. If you use it don't undo the front strap until the boat is in the water!!!

Don't use silicone. I know of at least one owner who got gel coat blisters because the silicone he was using on his bunks trapped water up against his hull for a prolonged storage interval.

When I was in college, I worked at a busy marina and saw two boats slide part-way off the trailer onto the ramp (both stopped when the prop dug in to the concrete).

Because of that, I never release my bow strap until the back end is in the water.

I've used Liquid Rollers and it is effective....just don't pull the trailer w/o your boat strapped.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I read this. I might give it a try.

My main concern was to ensure that the silicone would not harm the gelcoat or cause issues to the gelcoat if I ever had a nick in the hull and needed to have it repaired etc. I know that cars are much harder to repaint if people have used siliconized wax on them.
