I wasn't trying to be funny or entertaining, but it sure has turned out to be. Clearly your popcorn machine has the wrong plates or didn't come from Plant 18.

Actually, it is a solar 12v system, inverted to AC. I use Trojan 105's. But my solar panels are lacking the sunshine it requires to properly charge her up.

Its not you, but the fact that the thread contains anything about a product that might have been built by Delco at the infamous plant 18. You know thats where are the really smart engineers worked. On another note, how big was the hammer you tried?

Ok Put a ratchet on the front of the motor and it rolled over so at least the motor isnt locked up. Then I pulled the battery out of my 2010 Dodge ram (top post) and put a set of bumper cables from the battery to the battery in my boat same thing hit the start button and it sounds like the battery is dead. So I checked the the battery connections and checked the connections at the motor. I also replaced the starter selnoid, smae thing. So is it the battery cables? FYI the oddssey battery I have is 992 cca and its for a car not a deep cycle. I am going to have the battery tested today to make sure there is not a bad cell in it. Any other suggestions?

Heck, take the easy way out... Son Watersports has a new battery (never used 2010) that could be purchased somewhere in the mid $50k's, and it comes with a SN200;-)

I'm anxious to hear the solution to this issue. It's been quite the discussion!

Have you measured the voltage or put a test light on the winding side of the starter-mounted solenoid while someone holds down the start button? And then worked your way back?

Another simple test (among many you need to do before you take the starter off) is to measure the voltage from the positive battery cable to the engine block. This would test (with no load) the ground connection. If there is much difference in voltage here than battery lug to lug, it probably won't support poweing the solenoid or starter as suggested in the other thread.

I believe your boat has two starter solenoids...if so, you need to be testing both.

This is all guessing without more data. Do you have a volt meter and know how to use one? If so, pm me or use the email I gave you and we can arrange a phone call.

Yea I know I forgot the multi meter Doahhhhhhh. But what else could it be but the battery cables? I have replaced or checked everything else. I plan to take enough cable with me to replace the cables but what size should I get? I know it sounds like I am throwing parts at it but the boat is over an hour away each direction and is no where near any parts places so itsfeels more productive to try and replace what might be wrong. I really want to have my boat for this weekend.

rule number one when jump startering a motor, the neg cable from the good battery goes to the block of the engine, not the battery post of the dead battery, the pos cable goes to the pos post of the dead battery.

Not a good idea. Use the time to find out what is right with it and narrow down what might be wrong. Your next trip there, please take a picture of the starter where I can see the solenoit and the remote solenoid and email it to me.

I guess I would take the multimeter and verify voltage drops starting at the battery posts and going backwards to the starter. I would go ahead and buy the parts and be prepared to install them once you figure out exactly which one is bad, But blindly changing stuff can just create more problems if you don't find the problem before hand. you can always return the aparts you don't use.

Start at the battery post measure from post to post, write that reading down. Now follow the positive lead back to were it is attached to the next component, Starter relay, then measure the voltage from the post termination to the block, if you have the same voltage reading within .1 volts as you had at the post then move to the other side and have a helper hit the starter's ignition switch while you measure the voltage from that termination to the block it should be exactly the same as the other side's reading, follow that lead until the next termination, and repeat as before. if at any point the voltage drop is more than a volt remove and clean the connection and remeasure the voltage to verify it's reading the correct voltage.

^ What he said. I remember working on my old Tige, which would not fire, and could not figure out the problem. I replaced the halifax switch with an "extra" one a local shop had. It did not fix the problem. I bought a new fuel pump and installed it... still nothing. I then bought a new coil pack, new plugs and wires, and installed them. Still nothing. I was at my wits end until I decided the scientific method really does have merit and removed the "extra" halifax switch (which was faulty) and the thing fired right up. It was the fuel pump.

I will be within 10 miles of my lake this weekend... but I'll be changing the alternator and measuring stuff for my ballast and audio upgrade projects. I certainly won't be on the lake. With the water levels low and the wallies in full force, no thank you.
