    Fire Extinguisher Location

My dealer was kind enough to supply a fire extinguisher with the new boat, but it is not installed. Where do you all suggest that I install a fire extinguisher in an SV211? Pics would be helpful if you have some.

    Thanks in advance.

      Yea,

I noticed mine did not come with one, every other boat did. I thought about it, and am going to either install in under the driver's side, (visible) or in front . I decided not to put it in the rear lockers, or where the amps where , because that is the likeliest place that a fire would start. should have it bolted up this weekend. I don't want to mounte it where it's visible, but in a panic, you want to have anyone see it, and grab it.

Don't extinguishers come as a standard fit in the engine compartment? Certainly on our lake, as a minimum an extinguisher in teh engine compartment is a required fit, and an extra easily accessible one is also recommended.

          McQ211,

I need to install one in my SV211 as well. Where did you end up installing yours? I was thinking under the dashboard inside the flip up cushion at the end of the loveseat (near the walkthru not the amps and stereo gear).

I finally decided to mount mine , under the dashboard Vertically. I figure if there is a fire in the engine compartment, getting to the extinguisher in the engine , or adjacent compartments would be a problem. Then I debated , visible vs non visible, and figured that if I ever needed it, the faster I (or someone less familiar with your boat) got to it , the better.

I'll probably do the same. Did you mount it vertically on side wall or vertically attached to the underside of the dash?

vertically on the side wall. so it's between your left leg and the wall, it's standing up. Tucked away from view, really but in a very easy place to get at. it is raised about 1/8 in from the floor lip, so it doesn't rattle. It's white, so it blends and it doesn't interfere with driving the boat. I think it's a good spot.

For those that have their extinguisher mounted vertically, i have heard that the dry powder can get packed in the bottom by the vibration of the boat. so before using it you need to turn it upside down and shake it violantly to break up the powder to allow it to be expelled properly.
