A friends 96 Ski with a GT-40 motor does not run well after idling for extended periods. I am pretty sure it is the TFI module. Does anyone know the correct one the motor has the finned style intake if this helps any.

It's on the distributor. If it was remote mounted, it would probably not have any issues because the heat is what causes them to act up. Remote mounting of tfi modules on efi ford vehicles that have them has been a worthwhile mod a lot of owners have done to their cars. I never had an issue with the tfi on any of the vehicles I have had with them. We have had at least 11 in my immediate family with TFI's. 3 of them had over 400k on the vehicles with not one TFI issue.
When I get a gt40 powered nautique, the first thing I will do is make remote mount tfi. On boats the air flow under the motor is not as good as in a car, expecially at idle. That's why it's more of a problem on boats.

I would suggest the TFI module is not a fragile as you think. I have 2350.4 hours on my boat, and the original TFI.
I do live in Oregon, so most of the time it is not that hot here. But I have worked summer camps on Lake Shasta, including one that had four days above 110 degrees.
When it is very hot, I try to open the engine cover if the boat is going to sit for a while. I know the engine will stay fairly cool when running, because air and water are circulating, but when you shut the engine off, the circulation stops, and the under cover temperature goes up.
