2002 Perfect Pass Servo Wheel Problem

    Hi All,

My Servo wheel for my perfect pass does not seem to be working. It does not spin freely so basically right now it is as if it is seized. I tried to turn it slightly with vice grips and didnt want to put too much pressure to the point that I break something inside... does anyone have any ideas. I am not sure if I have to replace that cylinder loking unit under the knowb that turns and sets when the engine starts ... Right now the throttle still works as if i dont even have servo wheel because it is always stuck ion the same position.

    What are your suggestions.

I think that the piece is called the "Perfect Pass Servo Motor"

Is it seized with the power off?? The knob should turn quite freely by hand when no power is applied. There is a large gold coloured resistor near the assembly, does that look OK, is it burnt??
Sounds like you need a new servo motor assembly.

The resistor is still mint on it .. looks perfect. the knob does not turn at all even when the engine is off. It has been like that since the winter I am imagining as I am up in canada. i have heard of a few cc fans taking them apart and oiling up the gears as they were rusted together.. Has anyone tried doing this ?

I haven't tried tearing one apart but it sounds like you have nothing to lose. I am sure the guys at PP could supply a new unit quite quickly. Their customer service is excellent.

I partially took mine apart… The motor freezes up from water/moisture, I fixed my frozen servo motor by filling it full of Corrosion X (which is a penetrating oil/anticorrosion spray), and letting it sit overnight. That was over a year ago and it is working like new.

There's no gears inside. It's basically a magnetic shaft.
The servo motor is a step motor.
As the power is applied to the motors windings around the outside of the shaft it pulls the magnetic shaft round.

              Mine was seized.
I took it apart and cleaned the shaft up with some sand paper.
I also used a sand paper flap wheel in the end of a battery drill and cleaned the bore of the motor with it.
              Now turns freely.
Have a go yourself. It sounds like your motor is seized so its worth having a try anyway.
Worst case scenario you have to get a new motor.
              Hope this helps

I replaced mine when it did that. Had I known it could be taken appart, I would have tried it. The negative to turning it with force is I broke the knob and had to order a new one of those too. It was pretty cheap, it was all about 200 if I remember correctly.

I replaced my 10 year old servo motor. It was frozen solid, couldn't even twist it. I was able to buy one from a local dealership, but PP can supply it as well. Very easy to swap out.

TRDon, I did the same thing with my knob. I actually picked up a knob at Radio Shack and tried to epoxy the string from the servo cable into the knob. Long story short, I had to re-epoxy the thing back into the knob twice on the water one day... huge pain in the *** (my fault).
