I ski a little in the showskiing world. Where you need two. and sometimes three larger outboard engines on a 20 foot boat, to pull large pyramids off the dock.

The general consensus is the old school three blade, large blade area, stainless props work the best. For Mercury engines, the MIrage propeller is one of the more popular ones.

I am no expert in propeller design, but I think it works better with large heavy loads to have as large of a blade area as possible, making contact with the water as long as possible, to make the thrust to move the boat. The more blades you have, the more turbulence or disruption of water flow across the propeller. More blades also mean each blade has to have less total area.

But it is a good idea for OJ to bring out this propeller. It has been proven you can sell a wakeboarder just about anything.

DanielC, what team? Midwestern by any chance? I too am an avid show skier. We love our big 3 blades. You'd think show skiing applications and wakeboard applications would be somewhat similar in the fact that we're both pulling a lot of weight (weighted boat vs a lot of skiers) etc...

I was wondering about this prop for a show ski boat but really don't think it'd be the answer. It's all about how much brass you can get in the water.

OJ must be owned by Gillette. They're always trying to squeeze another blade onto their razors.

The must be a point of diminishing returns when it comes to the # of prop blades. I'd be interested to try one out though!

I trust Travis completely. If he says it is good, I am sure it is. Would love to try one on my boat!

Or I could put it another way. The temperature right now is approaching 60 degrees, F. And it is raining lightly.

I've got one brother and some friends in Portland. You have had a terrible summer so far. It's been awesome here in WI on the other hand.

I still have yet to try a 540 vs the 209 acme prop I have been running to say for certain if the 3 vs 4 blade theory many have is correct. After my wedding I plan on buying a 540, or the other newer 3 blade acme has ( not the 542) to test the theory out.
