    Gel coat/pinstrip questions

My boat is white with a black stripe running the length of the boat with silver metal flake pinstriping. I am wanting to buff out scratches and light oxidation on the hull. #1: Is the black stripe gel coat or some other finish? #2: The pinstriping has worn off in places and i'm wanting to remove it, is the transition in hull colors usaully clean? I would hate to pull off the pinstriping and uncover something ugly. Thanks in advance!

The line between the two colors of gelcoat is usually clean, but not always. Pull the old tape off, and see what you have.

If you heat the tape with a heat gun, when it is still on the hull, it will come off easier. Use rubbing alcohol to remove the old tape residue.
