My 2002 has the 25th anniversary GT-40. I love it! (Except for the tilted oil filter. The Excalibur's filter is straight vertical and doesn't leak when you spin it off.)

I've been a car mechanic for over 20 years and I can honestly tell you that I'm not a fan of Ford, but the GT40 Is a BEAST. I feel a sense of pride every time I start it up at the ramp as I watch the crowd turn their heads toward me, wondering what the heck is under the hood. A GT40 on a Nautique is not the same as a 5.0 on a Mustang. Plus the 351w has slightly more displacement

I agree with Jeff... either you don't have an 03, or something weird is going on! I ordered my 03 and really disliked not being able to have the GT-40 at first because I'm more familiar with the Ford engine platform, but the Excalibur has given me 19 year of flawless operation.
Speedy ... there's really more than just a few cubic inches difference between almost any Mustang and the GT-40 engine PCM used. Firstly the obvious 49 cubic inches added, but the GT-40 used the GT-40 heads and intake 1st used on the 1993 Mustang Cobra. I've seen boats with both the Cobra style intake and the GT-40 style intake as well, but I think most received the Cobra style cast upper intake like in the above picture. I'm not real sure if the GT-40 has a roller camshaft or not, but after 1994 Ford offered the 351 with bosses for the bolts to hold down their roller lifter retainer plate. Technically the only Mustang to receive a similar engine was the 1995 Cobra R, while the rest all got the 302 engine platform. They are ancient technology by today's standards, but they just work and do it well!Jason

This has me thinking purchased a 2012 200 with the 343 PMC Chevy. It is all stock and I have always improved my boats for more power.
I glad to see comments that for the ski boat the 343 is all you need. When we tested the boat out last fall was very happy with the hole-shot and loved the exhaust tone.
my last boats all have been outboards and wanted to get back to a V8 inboard!
