Bottom of boat has oil residue, need cleaning suggestions

I have a 01 SAN and must of had a oil spill or leak at one time. The bottom of the boat inside the engine copartment and ski locker has a oil residue that I can not get rid of. As a result if I put a ski in the locker it gets an oil film on it. I have tried to wipe the oil out but it comes back if any water gets in the boat and moves the oil fro the engine comartment up to the locker. Is this normal? Do most of you owners have the light oil residue in the bottom of your boat? Have any of you cleaned it out with success? If so how? At any rate it drives me crazy.

I used a citrus based cleaner to wipe up a little residual oil I had from changing the filter. The problem is it's really tough to get at the hull under the engine in the v-drives. There is a drain plug for the ski locker - sounds like yours has been removed, if you put the plug back in that should prevent the water/oil mix in the main compartment from getting into the ski locker.

Get some mineral spirits and put it in a spray bottle (old windex bottle.) What also works well is to get a syphon adapter for an air hose, stick the syphon line into the mineral spirits can and the shop air will suck it out so you can spray it all over everything for a thorough degrease! All the nasty should drain down through the hull and the extra mineral spirits will evaporate off.
