1999 SAN Exhaust muffler/bellow fell apart, thinking of going to dual exhaust...

Ok so I've got a 99 Super Air and the single fiberglass tube/box that both exhaust hoses feed into prior to running out the back started to fall apart a couple months ago. I've been patching it up with fiberglass, but the last time I had it out the thing completely fell apart and is not salvageable...

A. The shop is having a hard time finding the OEM exhaust muffler/bellow and thinks Correct Craft no longer makes it

and

B. The shop claims if they can find the OEM exhaust muffler/bellow the engine has to come out to be able to put it in

so...

I'm thinking about pulling the old exhaust muffler/bellow out and converting to dual exhaust. I know some people like the sound of the exhaust straight out the back, but I'd prefer to keep it as quiet as possible. What's out there in a muffler/catalytic converter/noisedampner that I can put between the exhaust hose and the flapper to dampen the noise some and prevent backflow of water?

I did a search on the forum and found some threads talking about running dual exhaust, but did not find any successful conversions.

Ideas, threads, comments are all welcome...

Thanks Jeff! Exactly what I needed. Any idea if anyone has figured out how to replace this thing without pulling the engine? I'm still thinking there would be less labor involved doing the dual exhaust route, but open to suggestions. Not to mention I'd have dual exhaust when it was all said and done.

If you want to quiet things down, a Fresh Air Exhaust would work to a degree and give you some added safety benefits for surfing.

I've never had to do this job, but going from memory on how my engine sits, I would not think you would need to pull the engine to install this piece. You may have to pull the alternator though.

Hey Chexi I think you found the solution. I think I'll run both exhaust hoses to a Y then to the single flapper and then to the Fresh Air Exhaust. Get rid of the stock muffler and quiet the engine noise with the FAE. Plus I'll get the added benefits for wakesurfing. Awesome!
