    Transmission!!!

So I have a 1993 Ski Nautique that is making a rattle in the transmission area. I had the damper plate replaced then took it out and couldn't get the boat past 25 mph. once I reached 25, it started slipping and making a high pitch sound. What pissed me off was the boat ran fine before I had the damper plate replaced, it simply had a rattle when I put it into gear. Now it has a rattle still and wont got past 25....my guess is that the transmission may need rebuilding. I am in West Sacramento, CA, can anyone recommend some one to do the work and how much it might cost?

I initially took my boat to River City Boat Works to do the damper plate, when I took it back to them saying it is running worse than when I brought it to him the owner said, " you told us to switch out the damper plate, the boat was F'ed up when you brought it to us, if you want us to look at it you are going to have to pay for it." I asked him if they warrantied their work and he said "yes but nothing we worked on could have caused this, and if you don't like it you can take your Fing boat and get the F out of here." You know I never raised my voice, or was insulting in any way nor did I curse at him. I have never been treated like that before. That is when I found out that Marine Mechanics have an unregulated industry here in California and there was really nothing I could do about it. All I can say is never take your boat to that place again.

Anyway, please let me know if there is good marine transmission shop in my area. Thanks.

Clearly the guy who "fixed" it is incompetent.
You could just pull it apart yourself and make sure that they even put the correct damper on it, and installed the proper direction. It is pretty simple to do. It may seem like a lot pf work, but it really isn't. Separate the coupler, loosen the mounts, lift the engine with bottle jacks under the manifolds, pull trans and bellhousing, inspect plate, re-install, verify alignment, reconnect coupler.

If it really needs to be rebuilt, Fantastic Finish Marine, in Ohio. Eric is the man. Pull it, crate it, and send it to him.

Superior Boat repair and storage used to be the West coast regional service center for Correct Craft.
I would take my boat there.
