So I have recently noticed the boat "puttering" when going to neutral from plane. Yesterday, we rode all day and everything seemed ok. We got down to a notch of gas, and added 6 gallons. Boat ran for 10 minutes, then had trouble starting and wouldn't stay running unless revving. Popped the engine hatch, and looking toward stern, water was popping out from a bolt on the Riser. Would this contribute or is it gas?

i have a short video of the issue, but i do not know how to upload it. shot on iphone4. currently saved as a quicktime video. as for the yukon, i took it to the dealer and told them my issues, and told them i heard about bad castings and all that stuff. i also mentioned many people getting a new pump and that not being the big issue. in short they installed a new water pump and new elbow or something. lifetime warranty on parts and labor. i made sure the guy knew i wasn't an idiot and that i wouldn't tolerate the situation if it was more than the pump. so far so good. now i just need to get my passenger a/c to not blow burning hot air.Last edited by gride; 08-26-2011, 01:49 PM.

can i email or mms it to someone and let you upload it for me? basically if you are looking at the stern, on the starboard side of the engine, there are two bolts in the top of the riser, and the inside one appears to send out little burst droplets of water when revving or in gear. it's my buddy's boat.

It sure sounds like a bad riser gasket from your description. Hopefully not a crack in the riser and hopefully not too much water going back toward the engine.
I'm glad to hear about your Yukon. As long as no more coolant goes "mysteriously missing" it ought to be good to go.
To get the air to work, turn the key off and then restart the motor. Be careful if going down the freeway. You're lucky yours is on the passenger side. Mine gets stuck on the driver's vents! If I turn it off and restart the engine, it clears itself up.
Just saw the video, good shot of it. Most likely riser to manifold gasket. Needs replacement immediately. Should check for cracks and make sure no water is in the cylinders.Last edited by crobi2; 08-26-2011, 02:50 PM.Rob

Hello all, been awhile since I have been on. No expert, but it does look like bad riser gaskets. Fairly simple fix, but soak with penetrating oil for awhile before trying to take apart. Those bolt break easily. Get a punch and hit the center of the bolts hard several times before trying to loosen them. Will break the rust up.
Been lurking, just have not logged in.
Thanks for all the good advise.

I'd say this bit info would convince any boat owner to get it repaired ASAP. Assuming it's correctly stated.
