Hey
Got my first Nautique this year. Its an 86 barefoot special with a 454. Been having issue with idle and back fires when hot. What it does is stall out at idle after running perfect for 25-45 minutes. But will start right back up after. if i drop the hammer after a start up she some times back fires than takes off like there is no loss of power at all. I had a sort period of power loss last week when out with a pile of friends. turned out the second two barrels were not opening cause the diaphragm was not opening them. replaced the diaphragm and cleaned out the suction airway to it. Got power back but still have this stall back fire issue. I have replaced coil, points, condenser, plugs, wires, and all electrical that a mechanic friend told me to. I first thought that this issue was the carb he assured me it was electrical. So I now am sure it must be the carb is not set up right and or needs to be cleaned. I am going to pull it off the boat and pull it a part and clean it up. I have had a hard time finding a rebuild kit. My local Holley dealer couldn't look up the number off the choke housing. So i took some pictures he told me it was a 4160 and gave me a general kit for repair with seals. Anybody have any tips on what not to do wile rebuilding this carb? I have rebuild many carbs off all my two stroke motors and the 5 other boats i had till i finally could afford a ski Nautique.
I have never rebuilt a big 4 barrel carb before.
Does any one have the stock settings that they used for these 454s?
thanks
