    Thermostat Replacement Instructions

I’ve notice a few people asking how to replace their thermostat. I figured with the amount of knowledge I’ve gained from this site it was time for me to give some back. Last night I replaced the thermostat on my 2006 210 and typed up some directions. Hope this helps anyone needing the information.

    Ryan,

I was looking for information on how to change a thermostat and found your thread. Thank you for putting this together, it was very useful. It is a great document to keep handy.

      Ryan,

I know this is quite old but really good instructions. Planet Nautique should post this in the permanent section under reference guides. I just replaced mine in a 2006 SV211 after 12 years and it was a little more difficult. I would add the following comments to your guide:
      1. Remove both hoses so you can take the entire top cover out to clean the gasket off. Also you can verify the path through the exhaust manifolds is clear.
      2. Spray penetrating lubricant down all 3 bolt holes and around the seam of the cover and let sit. I used a product from WD-40 because it came with the little straw. I'm sure "Blaster" works just as good.
      3. I had to apply pretty good pressure using a "nail digger" to get the cover to pop off.
      4. Used a wood chisel to carefully remove all remnants of the old gasket from both surfaces. This took a while. Perhaps some solvent would help.

      Hope this helps someone!

I've been chasing a thermostat issue and found these instructions and TechBeer's comments above super helpful. I did one round of WD-40 soaking for the bolts and another round to free the cover. An impact driver with a 6mm hex socket helped on the 2 bolts, and it took a decent sized pry bar to free the cover. I would definitely recommend a sharp chisel to remove the baked on gasket from both sides of housing.

At this point, I've replaced the temp gauge and thermostat. I'm still having issues getting a reading on the dash. Is there any chance the sending unit could be bad, or is it more likely the dreaded gateway box failure that's causing my temp not to read?
