    Rattling noise SANT210 2008

When I put the boat in gear (either forward or reverse) just above idle to coast up to rider I get this rattling/clanging noise inside the v drive compartment/tran/engine. At first I thought it was something loose inside compartment area but further inspection lead to it being inside engine housing. This only happens just above idle and if I throtle up a little it goes away. I have had the boat a little over a year, bought it new 3hrs and have 270hrs now. It has always been there. Not sure if this is something that is common or someting not right internally. Is it not fully engaging? It seems like it is because its moving. Any thoughts would be nice. Don't want to take it in for nothing.

Do you have the 5.7L or the 6.0L. If the latter 6.0L, maybe your engine was shipped with this factory GM feature: http://www.pistonslap.com/

It is the damper plate. It is located between the engine and the transmission. PCM issued a recall for replacement. It makes a noise as you describe but causes no issues according to PCM. Dealer should warranty it.

+1...if you search PN, you'll find at least one thread on it. It's a known problem.

Thanks everyone for your input it's good to know and your right it doesn't seem to affect anything. Just annoying sometimes especially
when people are ahhing and oohing over it and you have this
          clanging.
I'm taking it in next week for it's regular maintenance and I will let
          them know to fix it.
On another note, we were out today and was filled up for wakesurfing and second pass in the transmission started sleeping and wouldn't
engage. I drained all of the bags and it was fine but left anyway. Got it home and I'm hoping to find it just need some fluid. It's do for a
change anyway. I hope that's all it is. Boats :/

That is strange. Where do you think the fluid went? Was it low the last time you checked it?

That's what I was wondering. Fluid looks good. From reading a lot of other post it does sound like it's the damper plate and it must be getting worse to cause the slipping. This really sucks because I finally got friend and his family to come out this way and take them out this
Friday but that now looks like it won't happen. We only have one
dealer in the area and I get a lot of mixed reviews from friends about there work. I also hear that PCM is difficult to work with on warranty stuff? Just what I have heard or read. I will find out for myself today.
