I did not get the boat winterized in time last winter and could not get the boat out of the lift because Lake Austin already had been lowered for the periodic hydrilla kill. I purchased one of these heaters and used it all winter, which was unusually cold for us. I had no damage whatsoever, and I am pretty certain I would have had freeze damage had I not used the heater.
I used one last winter. Checked it 4 times a day during the cold snap, bilge never got under 45 while the dash was in the low 20's for 4 days.
I would be concerned about an ice storm where you loose power for an extended period. I'm only 2 blocks from the slip so I can winterize or put the boat in the water if I need to.
