Maintenance on 97 SS

We just got our super sport last year and I'm getting it ready for our first trip this year. I don't have a manual. I read in a prior message about oil weight, I just bought some 10w 40, should I be using 15w 40 instead? The engine is a gt40.
Also, I'm not real clear on how the dipstick for the transmission oil reads? I pumped out all that I could and it looks like about 1 quart. Does anyone know how much it should hold? There doesn't seem to be any markings on the stick at all. The trans is the PCM, looks like a 1.0, it's hard to read though.

PCM recommends straight 40 wt oil for all Ford engines at or above 50 degrees. Between 32 and 50 degrees, they recommend straight 30 wt. The other thread that you're referring to is about the newer GM-based PCM engines, and doesn't apply to yours.

Your transmission should hold about 1.5 - 2 quarts. It is almost impossible to get more than about a quart out of the unit, so just measure how much you get out, and put that much new fluid in.

I have the manual in a PDF format for the 97 SS. Correct craft sent me a cd with it on. It is like 17 meg so I don't think it will email well, but I could share it on emule and you could download it off of that. If you want me to do that let me know.

My email won't let me send items that large. Any way to upload it or get it to you differently? I can also try from my home email which is a road runner account, but I have never used it so I don't know what the limit is on that.

Let's try attaching it to this thread. Try attaching it like you would attach a picture. I have turned off the attachment size restriction, so it should work. I'll grab it, then turn the size restriction back on.

Jeff, I tried a couple of times and it won't let me do it. It says document contains no data. I tried zipping it and it did the same. Do you use emule? I can share it on there. Or I can try tonight when I get home.

Any luck getting the 97 SS manual posted? I have a 97 SN and need to replace the stereo, so I'm looking for the wiring diagram. My owners manual does not include it and my local dealer said to contact correct craft. I'm waiting for their reply. Would like to see if the 97 SS pdf manual has the wiring diagram. thanks.

Haven't heard back from my contact yet, but it is Easter weekend, and I can't imagine things are too normal around the factory right now.

I just heard from my contact, and he doesn't have access to a '97 wiring diagram. He did state that you could probably get by using one from around the same time frame, as all wiring colors are done to Coast Guard specs, so it doesn't change too much year-to-year.

On a related note, a forum member has just sent me a 1997 Owner's Manual for a Ski Nautique. That manual has been added to the downloads section.
