    Charging Question; 2003 196 LTD

Have an '03 196 LTD with dual batteries. Recently, the boat was beeping at me due to low voltage. I traced the problem back to a bad Perko switch, replaced it, and all seemed well.
Over this past weekend I tested both batteries while the engine was running, and the 2nd battery in the back storage area was reading 14+ V, but the main battery was only reading 12.2V.

This tells me that the front battery is either shot and won't take a charge, or it is not receiving a charge. How can I test if it is getting charge, orther than to check voltage while the engine is running? Also, what is the small gauge wire and in-line fuse for by the main battery +12V terminal?

To recap, both batteries read~12.5V when engine is off. With engine on and battery switch set to "ALL" the 2nd battery reads 14+V and the main battery only reads 12.2.

    Thanks!

I would check the main switch again. With switch selected to both, you should have 14 volts at both? Try switching to the "main" battery only and see if it will start.

the switch is a few weeks old, and is working fine. So I'm losing contact somewhere between the switch hub and the battery terminal.

Regarding the small gauge wire that is tied into the main (stock/factory) battery terminal's clamp, what is that for?

yes, the switch is connected properly

I'm starting to wonder if I have a bad connection between the battery terminal and the cable connector.
