how can i tell if its working? when i flush the engine i should see water coming out on the bottom outside the hull, correct?

if its leaking on the inside, is it easy to see when at the lake?

Yes - correct

I don't know. But I would assume so. Don't be tricked by pooling water in the bilge. Water comes from everywhere...including bare feet.
