1998 Air Nautique - Gel Coat

I'm the new proud owner of a very beat up but mechanically healthy '98 Air Nautique. Cosmetically, I'll be going through the entire boat and have already removed most of the interior and wet sanded the exterior after removing the decals. Now moving on to fixing the gel coat damage. I've been through hundreds of threads regarding this topic. Seems that the consenses is to use www.spectrumcolor.com (silver cloud = white) for obvious color matching reasons.

Thought I would chime in to see if anyone has used the following product - http://www.fiberglasssite.com/servle...-White-/Detail. It's a 1/4 the cost of spectrum and comes with MEKP and the wax for using as a topcoat.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Almost exacty my old 99 Air (but for the different bow layout and 1st gen tower vs 2nd gen). If you want to see what your baby will look like when completely redone, check out my album.

The spectrum is the factory color, but because of damage from the sun it will not be an exact match. Having said that it will still more thank likely be your best bet at a match. How big is the spot you need to repair?

Thanks for replies. The "spots" are all over the place... literally. I'll need at least a gallon of gel coat, I think someone took their wakeboard and went to town . I will be wet sanding the entire deck, so I'll be trying to blend it all together.

Keep in mind the boat came from a ski school, so there was not much respect cosmetically. They did, however, keep the gt-40 purring like a kitten.

And yes, a 2nd gen tower is a must - haven't noticed any for sale. I may have to go with NDT.

Awesome 99 Air. That tower would look cool on some of the new nautiques. Would love to see a ski or sport 200 with that style tower.
