Composite platform mounting help

I have just purchased a new composite platform for my 2003 216. I am going to take mounting brackets of my teak one and mount them on the composite platform. I am hoping for a little guidance re drilling and fitting the new platform.
Does anyone have any tips re the best method of ensuring that I get the brackets lined up properly and drill my holes in the correct spots? What is the simplest method to do this?

That first idea is just asking for trouble. Go with the second one. Get the brackets installed on the boat and center them in their mate. Set the new platform down on them and match drill one, then install the screws. Then match drill the second bracket.

+1...this is how I did it when ditching my teak step and I had no problems. I would leave the screw slightly loose and tighten them all up once all the screws are installed.

On a side note, I have been thinking about switching my poorly designed 03 brackets with the new 2012 step brackets that allow you to remove or just fold down. I don't know how much it would cost or if it's even possible.

Shooter: did you just use the old screws from the teak platform? Are you happy with the change to the composite platform?
On another note, given the price of the 2003 bracket set I can’t see you getting much change from $500 for the 2012 set, would be interesting though.

OZ...I'm very happy with the switch. I never really liked the look of teak.

I did get new screws because the composite step already had screw holes and I tried to use some of the existing holes. My teak screws were one size too small and I picked up some larger new stainless screws from West Marine. FYI..The step is metal reinforced where the brackets attach underneath. You will probably need to mark the step then drill the pilot holes on the ground to get the leverage u need.

I love the new brackets, but didn't realize they allowed you to just fold down. Are they really $500? Ouch.

That looks great. What kind of material is that on top of the platform? Rubber? Foam? Im interested in doing this if for no other reason, maybe cut down on scratches on the bottom of my ski's and wakeboards when suiting up

Where abouts did you buy your platform from? What was the cost? Definately really like the composite look! Teak looks awesome, just alot of maintenance

Delmage, I got mine through a dealer here in AUS but I did get a quote from nautiqueparts.com. You could try them or you local dealer.
