    Winterizing GT-40

How do you guys winterize your GT-40 motor? Last year, in winterizing mine, I sprayed fogging oil into the intake while the engine was running--until the motor died. Later I find out that PCM no longer recommends fogging the motor in this way. They are now saying that the GT-40 intake is considered a dry intake. I understand that there are concerns about getting oil on the MAP sensor.

On the other hand, my mechanic, who is PCM certified, insists that taking off the spark arrestor and spraying fogging oil into the intake until the motor dies is the only way to properly lubricate the valves and valve stems. So, I don't really know what to do.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Spray it into the intake behind the spark arrestor. I am curious how much fogging oil you are using if you are killing a GT-40. I have sprayed alot and that motor fights me and doesn't want to quit so I kill it on my own. I would say that when you are done dumping the antifreeze, you are done fogging (assuming that you did both at the same time). I kill the engine by sticking my finger in the intake hole.

I would say that I sprayed for about 15 seconds and the motor started to run poorly and died. The only thing I can think of is that I'm in Denver, one mile above sea level. This means, obviously, means less air and consequently higher oil to air ratio.

Have you had any problems running your motor the next season after fogging through the intake? I became so worried that I had the intake cleaned out--including the MAP sensor.

been winterizing gt40's like that for 8 years and never had a problem with them. Did they find anything wrong when they cleaned out the map sensor?

The mechanic said everything checked out. I'm going to give PCM a call to see what they have to say.

I have a 2000 GT-40 and my Brother has a 98 GT-40. This is our first year with the boats and our first year to have to winterize them. Having winterized a few older boats but never a GT-40 with EFI we don't know where to start.

I also have a heater to drain. I'm wanting to add antifreeze to that system. Where else should I add antifreeze? Do you have to worry about the speedos on all the boats? I have digital, do you blow the air out of those? The boats are v-drives so do the Transmissions have a drain plug?

Any other links on the net?

            Any help would be great.

            Thanks

Minnesota is still warm enough to ride, This week anyway. its been mid to high 70's, 80 yesterday.

But 30's 2 weeks ago so it got real cold real fast so the water temp dropped.

Almost time to get the boats out!

You can drive your Nautique all year around in Minnesota! The only catch to it is that half the year it has to be on a trailer being pulled on the ice by your truck. Meaning that you can drive cars on the lakes. My lake is like a speedway, cars everywhere!
