I use tons of it just to make sure I get it through everything. I buy a case which is 4 jugs or 16 litres. Seems to do the trick with with GT40 and heater.

Not sure what the actual capacity of the engine is though.

I was at WalMart today and happened upon the pink -50.

I read the ingredients and the number one ingredient was ethylene alcohol. I don't know if antifreeze is like a food product in the sense the biggest ingredient is listed first? but, either way, I wouldn't put that crap in my engine. I'd use the real deal toxic stuff and save it from year to year.

Good thread...........I was always told to put the TEAL/BLUE Anit-freeze in the engine? This is what I have done for 15 years. Dealer always told me to stay away from the Pink since it was for R/V and Boat plumming and not a motor block. But I know many that use the pink in the engine and have not had a problem.

Air Tool - What do you think may be the problem with it? Would it eventually eat gaskets? or?

I'm curious, because I this is all I've known people to do around here. Unless they take it do a dealer. I may have to become a new proponent of the marine antifreeze.

Yes - all the soft stuff would have to be resistant to alcohols...which is not common....especially on the coolant side.

From the 2010 PCM owners manual

"NOTICE: For additional protection against freezing and
corrosion, you may wish to fi ll the engine with antifreeze.
If ethylene glycol based antifreeze is used, check with
local environmental agencies about the proper disposal
of antifreeze. It may be necessary to drain the system
                prior to re-commissioning the boat."

Pink is going to be fine in the motor, normally it just water sitting in there anyway.

The pink antifreeze is NOT ethylene glycol.
Ethylene glycol is the green "Prestone" auto antifreeze.

FYI guys- pretty much EVERY marine dealer in the country uses the "pink stuff" aka RV/Marine antifreeze. I trust that they know what they are doing b/c you don't here about the 1,000's of people that get boats winterized at dealers having any problems with their boats.

The green automotive antifreeze is toxic and would not recommend.

                          Some clarity:

                          1. no one should be confusing pink RV stuff with pink /orange automotive dexcool. If anyone is in doubt, they should say automototive green, automotive pink, rv pink, rv green, rv blue, whatever.

                          2. All (auto and RV) are both non-toxic and toxic at the same time. In small quantities, neither are "very" harmful. In large quantities, all are deadly and neither are good for the environment. The green way would be to save it from year to year.

Take RV propylene glycol. PG is a common solvent for food coloring you use to dye cake/icing. A few drops, okay. Drink the gallon - not okay.

I'm told there's a little propylene glycol in KY jelly, too. FWIW. :o

                              Guys,
The pink stuff is fine. It isn't going to hurt anything in your engine. I use it and always see -30*, occasionally -40* here in MN winters.

Scott, I am unclear on how you think you mixed water on top of your AF. Without circulation it isn't mixing much. Not to make you more paranoid about it than you were, but I would not do what you did. I would wither re-do it mixed 50/50, or simply drain it and forget it.

Please use Pink RV antifreeze. It is non toxic biodegradable where the green/DEXCOOL stuff is not. RV antifreeze has corrosion inhibitors. I'm not condoning Prestone or any other brand in the thread. Simply supplying information that you can do further research on. We do not want to chance polluting our lakes and streams with automotive antifreeze. Note this is applicable to "RAW WATER" cooling systems where lake/river water directly cools the engine.

                                Prestone® RV Waterline Antifreeze

Ideal for winterizing all types of potable water supply systems. Recommended for use in boats, trailers, recreational vehicles, vacation homes, swimming pool filtration and heating systems. Outstanding rust and metal protection for all metal pipes commonly found in water supply systems.
