    electric rear trunk problem

I have a 2003 216 with electric opening rear trunk, CC didn't keep this as a fixture for very long so I'm guessing it wasn't a very good idea. My problem is, it's starting to open occasionally when I’m towing the boat on the trailer; I live about 45mins from the river.

I am thinking about replacing the electric latch with a manual one, has anyone done this, how hard was it?

or is there a trick to tightening up the electric one so I don’t need to tie down trunk lid while driving?

The usual problem is people cannot get them open.

There is a manual release cable tucked up on the starboard side, up under the gunnel, and slightly behind the edge of the upholstery of the back seat, I think. This cable is pulled to release the catch. If this cable does not retract completely, it may hold the latch partially open. If the latch has 8 years of accumulated dirt, and grime on it, it may also not close completely.
