I just winterized my boat yesterday. I looked it up in the maintenence manual and it said it takes 4 qts with filter. After filling it up and letting it run with 4 qts, it registered a qt low. Does it really take 5 qts? It seems to make more sense to have 5 in there seeing as my other boats were 4.5-5, and this one is newer. I dumped another 1/2 qt in there and let it sit overnight to get all to the pan and let it drain back from the motor. I figured that is the only way to really test it. Is the book misleading?

4.5 if changed properly.
3.5 if changed in a hurry.
I've never put 5.0
I drain into an old oil container....and usually put in what i get out. Or if I get at least 4, I'll pour in the entire gallon jug then start topping off in the water using a one quart bottle. Usually takes half then I have half a bottle to carry in the tow vehicle to top off between changes....but it generally needs very little and I end up pouring it in the tow vehicle.Last edited by AirTool; 11-07-2011, 12:13 AM.
