Do not operate!

Hi. Whilst doing some work on my 01 san I found the wires to the v - drive sensor cut and taped up. Obviously a previous owner had disconnected it. I reconnected it and now have the Do Not Operate above 1500 rpm light on all the time.
Should I be worried about this?
The fact I have been using the boat without knowing this was not connected.?

More than likely the switch is just bad and the PO was just too lazy to diagnose and repair the problem correctly. If your fluid level reads good you should have nothing to worry about. Buy one of these and I bet your light will operate properly again. http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1140

Thanks for that. Yeah fluid levels were fine. Have recently changed all fluids on the boat anyway which is when I found the sensor disconnected.

Will get a new sensor and give it a try.

Sensor may even be fine and he cut because he did not like the light coming on while idling.
