    Removing Rear Seat Base on 2004 SAN and Access to Ballast Pumps

    Gents:

    I am considering buying a 2004 SAN - think I finally found the right one. So, I have to ask two dumb questions before I tear stuff apart: 1) I removed the port and starboard latches under the stern seat, but it still resists sliding out - how, exactly do you remove the stern seat base? and 2) how do you access the ballast pumps - are they under the ballast tanks?

    I ask this group because I have failed in my search on my own.

    I answered my first question. Although I had the two latches and two bolts undone, it still seemed to be hanging up on something unseen. The answer is....you must torque the base a bit to get it out - pull the starboard side up first, then torque it towards the bow and pull. It was sturdier than I thought.

    As for my second question, surely those tiny red items just inboard of the ballast valves are not the fill pumps! It looks like those puppies would take forever. As for the drain pumps, it appears those are in the tanks themselves - I can hear them, just can't see them.

      Drain pumps are underneath not inside the rear tanks. There is a smaller 'sub-floor' section that drops below the tank against the transom.

      The fill pumps are more midway back from the thruhulls. The red sections are a crappy attempt to control unwanted water flow. Keep following the hose and you should see the aerator pumps. In my 2003 they are just next to the oil pan on each side.

        Thanks mnwakerider. I have now taken out the partitions and can see better. It appears that 1) the fill pumps are going to be a pain to get to and, 2) I am going to have to remove the ballast tanks to access the drain pumps. Again, I appreciate your time to look at and reply to my question.
