Our 2002 196 GT40 has had a dripless packing on it since the boat was new and we haven't had any leakage. The bilge is always dry and the engine has 1,100 hours on it. Not sure if this informations helps since the boat you drove is a 210.

If the shaft was improperly aligned or bent I would think that they would have noticed something amiss on the test drive beyond the water in the bilge. The fact that he changed his story about never having seen it do this before is troubling however.

Have to remember alot of boat owners are clueless and don't realize how minor of a problem a leaky shft seal is hence why he might have been hiding it or whatever. If shaft was bent you'd feel it in a test drive!
