help with part # for solenoid

tried to fire up my 89 Sport last weekend and got nothing.
Could get a faint clicking sound but engine wouldn't even crank.

this has happened before and the solenoid was suggested to be the culprit.

Does anyone know what part number I need for a replacement? Are these things generic enough that I can just get one from an auto parts store?

Help me out, got a holiday weeken coming up and I don't want to be landlocked.

use a test light to find out if you are getting power to the solenoid or the starter. This will help you to better detect your problem.
I am pretty sure that you can get them from a parts store but dealers should have them as well. I don't have a part number off hand.

Well if your boat has been sitting for a while, I'd suspect the battery going South. Would be easy check. Next would be cables and cable connections.

yeah, the battery thing is my first thought. It was actually the first time trying to start it using a brand new Optima battery. I didn't think to check battery level at the time...all the accessories were running fine, and it was cold out so I was ready to go home.

I keep the boat out of town, so this week will be my only chance to grab necessary parts before heading out this weekend. If I don't have what I need by Friday, I won't have access to a marine store until the next week.

Unless, of course these parts are standard and can be picked up at an auto parts store.
