Ballast pump replacement

New owner here guys so be patient:-). I just purchased an '05 SANTE 226. I took it to the local dealership for a few items we were aware of when we purchased it. We throught we had a leaky port ballast hose, but the dealership diagnosed it as the "port ballast drain pump outlet is cracked". Apparently you have to remove the balance tank to relplace the pump to the tune of 3.5 hrs labor. Is this a project the average do it yourselfer can handle? My previous boat was an I/O and I did all the maintenance including impeller, oil changes, etc. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I am not positive but I think that boat may have aerator style pumps for fill and separate aerator pumps attached to the tanks for empty.

If this is the case and the problem is a broken fitting (or pump shell), and if you are reasonably handy with tools, you can take out the tank and just replace the pump with an identical one from walmart or your sporting goods store.

As an update, I did this job on Saturday. I was able to remove replace the pump without removing the tank. I upbolted the tank and lifted it about 6 inches and was able to swap the pump. It was a bit of a pain working in such tight quarters, but well worth the savings of $500+ bucks!
