where to add/extract tranny fluid on GT-40 V-drive?

Is the V drive compartment the only location where any sort of tranny fluid is required? or is there an additional inlet as well?

also, I'm a bit confused...I'm hearing people mention "tranny oil" and also dexron tranny fluid. do I need either/or/both?

Lastly, on the V-drive, do I suck it out of the dipstick hole and then replace through the same place?

there is an odd, loose fitting, "bottle cap" type of cap on the V-drive as well. what is this for?

    Thanks in advance, guys.

You have three fluids to change. Engine oil, transmission oil, and the v-drive.
Use Valvoline VR-1 40w oil in the engine. Use a Motorcraft FL1-A oil filter. About 4.5 quarts, with filter change
Use Dexron/Mercon ATF in the transmission. The transmission dipstick will be on the starboard side of the transmission. You suck oil out of the dipstick hole, and add it back in to the same hole. it takes a little over a quart.
Use a non detergent 30 weight oil in the V-drive. Again, suck it out of the dipstick tube. You can also remove a drain plug on the bottom aft end of the V-drive, but make a tray out of an old milk carton to catch the oil, and keep it out of the bilge. I do not know how much oil the V-drive takes.

If when doing an engine oil change, you drain the oil, and then let the engine sit overnight, a lot less oil runs out of the oil galley when you remove the oil filter. A lot less oil ends up in the bilge.

I think I see the drain plug of the v drive. I'm seeing a small, square bolt head near the bottam of the v drive that points toward the transom of the boat. is this the drain plug?

Dont get the water galley drains confused with the oil drain. there are two water collant drain plugs on the V-Drive for winterizing. Get a Pella oil pump and suck it out of the filler tube.. works great with the engine oil too...

That is the oil drain plug. The water drain plugs are on the top of the v-drive.
I strongly recommend you do not remove the oil drain plug without something in the bilge to catch the oil
