Small spots on my black '04 Gelcoat

    Guys/ Gals,

We pulled our nauti out of the garage this spring to shine her up before dumping her into the lake, and after washing up the hull I began to notice these really tiny white-ish spots below the waterline. They are not everywhere, but they only appear beneath the waterline.

our SAN is 8 months old, and we pulled it out of the lake about every month from July to November for a good washing, yet I already see this in the gelcoat.

I've called my dealer and they advised me to use rubbing compound.

I tried that over a small area, and got no result. I definitely don't want to do much more than that until I hear what you all have to say about this.

....and just be sure for this year we already placed an order for a lift.

They could be calcium deposits, although I don't know why they would be only below the waterline. Try 50/50 vinegar/water on them. If that doesn't do the trick, try CLR or Lime Away.

        Could it be gelcoat blistering?

Had a similar problem and felt it was the wax I was using. Star Brite marine with teflon. Had to use mineral spirits to remove all the wax. I to dock my boat all summers and pull it out every 4 to 5 weeks to clean and let the gel coat dry out for 4 days then rewax. Use only Megurers products now and had no problems since.

good luck - my 2004 hull got blisters after 8 months. The hull had to be re-done, fortunately under warranty. Hopefully, won't happen to me again, and the problem you have is minor.

Okay, this story has a happy ending, fortunately.

My dealer, Watersports Central (here in Georgia), and in particular their recently promoted Director of Service, Greg, totally went above and beyond to help get things fixed for us. I had seen greg's incredible work restoring old Nauti's before, so I knew that if i went to him directly he could fix this as well as anyone I know.

So Friday we towed it in to have him look at it as the shop was closing down, and I bet we spent 30 minutes trying various products to no avail. Greg had no idea what these spots were, but he said they definitely were not blisters. Last thing he tried was a non abrasive compound called "Buff Magic", taking it off with the high speed buffer. Lo and behold this stuff did the trick. Being able to bear down a little with the buffer was the key.

I put the buffer to it on Friday evening and worked out all of the spots by late friday night. Thanks for the stuff Greg!
