I am replacing my impeller on my 2003 SAN with the 330 excalibur motor. The replacement kit includes an o-ring with about an inch and a half diameter. When I removed the old impeller, there was no such o-ring in the assembly. I believe that the o-ring goes between the pump and cover, just behind the cover gasket. Is this correct? To further explain where I think it goes, you would put the new impeller in, put the o-ring against the pump, put the cover gasket on and then the cover with the 4 allen bolts. Does this sound right? Thanks

Have you checked the drawings and diagram of the PCM service manual ?
You can see an exploded diagram view of the impeller & gaskets and o-rings on pages 51 thru 56.
You can get the Service Manual here http://www.pcmengines.com/parts.html
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. That will come in handy one day I am sure. In looking at page 52 of manual, it does not even show this oring that I am talking about. The diagram looks exactly like what I took apart when I was removing the old impeller. You can see the impeller kit on this page and it is showing it consisting of 2 items, the impeller and the gasket. I guess they give you the o-ring because the kit can also be used maybe in some other applications that would require the o-ring like for a different motor. Does this sound right.

Oh I think I now see what is going on. The same impeller kit is also used for a crank driven raw water pump (I have the belt driven). It can be seen on page 54 of the manual and it does show the o-ring being used but does not show the gasket. So I guess I don't need the O-ring.

That's correct. I just did mine too, and I didn't use the o-ring, just the gasket.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Jeff,
Do you normally take the whole pump loose so you can actually get to the thing to change the impeller? I had quite the adventure last night. I had everything changed out without removing the pump (after dropping numerous washers and bolts under the motor) then snap, one of my allen bolts sheared as I was tightening things up. It must have been a week bolt because I did not tighten all that much yet. Anyway, I ended up removing the whole pump to remove the sheared bolt and it seemed like it would be much easier to change everything out that way.
