    Oxidized gel coat restoration!

I used this product on my '86, and it is the best product I have ever tried. Did a few buddies boats too. Its a little bit of work, but its worth it.
Just thought Id share, for any one looking to remove that white haze/fade.

Poli Glow has been discussed here. Putting it on your boat is akin to a band aid. Instead of addressing faded or oxidized gel properly (by wetsanding the deteriorated gel off and buffing it back smooth), the Poli Glow simply covers it up and makes it look shiny for a while. Not a permanant, or even proper fix, IMHO.

I'm with Tim on this one. The oxidation you just covered up using that kit will just come back after a month or so. If you want it done right, there is no band-aid fix. My hull was oxidized quite badly when I bought my boat. I wetsanded by hand with 800-grit, then switched to 1000. Followed that up with 3M Super Duty rubbing compound using a rotary and a wool pad, then used 3M Finesse It with the same rotary using a 3M foam pad. After this I used 3M hand glaze, then finished it off with Collinite 925 marine wax. Took two weekends to do it all and some really sore muscles but it looks like new again.

That's a great method I might suggest if you ever do it again to finish even finer like 1500 or even 2000 it will polish back much quicker and look nicer.

I used this product 3 years before I sold my '86. Every spring I put a fresh coat on and it was awesome. I loved this stuff. Anyone looking to improve the look of their boat, especially an older boat without a ton of work, this is def the way to go. A quik fix.....yes. But thats what I was looking for with this boat.

No need to go that fine with the paper IF you are using an appropriately aggressive compound. For instance, 3M Super Duty will remove scratches left by 1000 grit paper (it says so right on the bottle). I usually wetsand to 1200 just to be safe, but have had good luck going to just 1000. Doing extra rounds of 1500 and 2000 will do nothing more than make your arms sore!

Or, you could skip the aggressive compounds and sand further... results should be the same if done right, but sanding is a LOT more work.
