1991 Ski Nautique restoration - Need info.

I have a 1991 Ski Nautique that needs some work for sale in the classified section and on boattrader.com. My question is can someone give me a realistic quote on what it would cost to have this done. Here is a link to a bunch of pics. I'm considering keeping it if it doesn't sell. I'm selling my house at the end of the year and stand to make around $100k, San Diego, so I can spare $5K or so to fix this thing up. Problem is I have no idea where to do this other then a shop that wants to charge me $1.5K for the wiring alone. No thanks. I don't have the expertise to do this myself. Especially the wiring. Any ideas of a good guy in San Diego. I figure I can go anywhere for the interior, so I'm not to concerned about that, although if you have an idea of what that would cost I would appreciate. Not overly concerned about having all original parts. Would be nice, but very expensive if the passenger seat frame, lock box, and pod for the guages is any indication. Any info. is greatly apprecaited.

The wiring is pretty simple it just takes time which translates into money. See if you can get the factory pod harness from Correct Craft, in 91 there is no computer to worry about so things are pretty much the same as they would be on any boat (or old car for that matter). It might be easier to completely abandon all wiring in the boat and start from scratch? I would bet I could sketch out a diagram for the whole boat in a couple hours. While you are rewiring things it might be wise to add some goodies like ballast pumps, stereo wires, heater wires/hoses, etc. It's probably a good weekend project, probably no less then 10 hours no more then 20, hmmm $1.5k is starting to sound about right...

Thanks, the guy that sold me the boat said pretty much the same thing. So I guess your 10 to 20 probably adds up to 20 to 40 for me. Ha Ha Ha. I've tried to follow a couple wiring diagrams but of course they all differ from place to place. Plus I want to make sure the neutral start thinga ma bob is in place so I don't kill myself. I get the engine to turn over for a second and then dies on me, so i know I'm doing something wrong. And that's just trying to get to run. I know it does as the person I bought it from got it going in a couple minutes, needless to say he knew what he was doing. The engine setup is really basic, so I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time.

This may sound like a really stupid question to you guys, but he put a single wire alt. on there and everything I look at is for the multiple wired alt. Where in the heck does that single wire connect to. Straight to the battery. Please don't laugh. Also, I'm probably using way to small of guage wires when I try and basically hot wire it. Is there a standard. If i could get this thing to run, I would be way more motivated to put some time into it. Once again, thanks fro any help and I apologize for my inexperience. I really want to get this thing fixed but my frustration, and wife, are convincing me to sell it to someone that knows what they're doing.

When you redo the interior make sure that you use stainless staples.
