PP speed reading versus the speedo gauge

Hey guys, on my new to me 2006 196 limited my speedo was reading 30mph but the digital read out on the Perfect Pass was 32? Which is likeky to be more accurate?

The guy I bought the boat from was a hardcore slalom guy, so I assume he calibrated the PP, what can i use to check this? Not sure if my tomtom nav app on my iphone is precise enough.

    thanks,

On some Correct Craft boats of that era, there was a adjustment up under the dash, right of the steering wheel that adjusted the speed reading on the speedometer.

GPS speed readouts on hand held devices can vary. But if you are going in a straight line, at a constant speed, it should settle in to pretty close to your actual speed.

Once your boat is moving at a constant speed, without changing RPM, without changing the load, and changing the throttle opening, you can assume the boat is moving at a constant speed. If you are in a river, you need to go both ways to even out current effects, and wind effects. You kind of take an average of the speed indicated on the GPS device, ignoring numbers that are obviously wrong.

If you have access to a slalom course, you can also use the time in the course to correct the speedometer readout.

I would assume the PP reading is more accurate? I know I've never personally paid much mind to the regular speedo. You could calibrate via gps, or do it the old fashioned way by timing through the course? Is your PP digi-pro, or SG? SG has always been pretty spot on for me.

Take a hand held gps out with you and then adjust your PP to read what the GPS says. Then change your analog speedo to match.
