03 SAN electrical problem

I've got an 03 SAN and have had the boat shut off by itself a couple of times.
Twice this has happened while towing a boarder with the PP on. All of the gauges and PP shut off for about 5 seconds then come back on. The boat isn't running hot and no warning lights or alarms are going off.
Anyone have this experience?
The boat is in the shop now but I don't know if they'll be able to find the problem unless it happens to happen when the test it.

I've often wished I had a remote control device to do exactly what you describe to PWC's! Seriously though, has the service bulletin been performed that directs the dealer to change the way some of the wiring is hooked up?

Oops, I just reread the original post. The problem is being experienced on an '03 SAN, the bulletin was for '02 Ski's.

More than likely, it is an issue with the relays not making good contact. There is a bulletin for this too. They should have the boat turned around real fast to you if this is the right problem. 9 out of ten times, that is the story. Nothing major other than you losing water time.

There is a TSB for an inline diode to the pumps. Apparently if you turn the pumps on or off while the engine is running, the pumps send a voltage spike back through the system and hicup the boat.
But, haven't heard of it happening as you describe.

Does anyone have a list of TSB's that could be provided to the site? It sounds like that would be a great resource in diagnosis of common problems.

Mid Ohio Nautiques should be able to post them for you. There was a recall for fins, coil wires, some impellers have not been taking a prime but I don't think there was a service bulletin for that, Bow lifting rings were an issue on selected boats, there was a bulletin on 2002 ski nautique's for screws coming too close to the gas tank because they were too long. There are other ones but I can't remember all of them.

Thanks for the info chris, the boat is at West Coast now.
I'm also having a oil leak problem that will be fixed next week.
Brice told me about the ballast pump hicup, this was not the case with us, although it may be related it did happen once while turning on the heater fan.
I'm hoping this dosen't continue to be an issue.

No verdict yet, the boat is still in the shop.
Turns out the oil leak was a main bearing seal so the motor was pulled out. Still waiting for the parts from CC. I should get the boat back next week. Nobody I've talked to seems to have any explanation for the problem. Thanks for your interest.

03 SAN

I would call Jeff Warner at CC. He's has the most knowledge of anyone I've spoken to. During our last conversation he did indicate that CC has a problem like the one you mention. Consistent with an earlier post, the problem dealt with the relays.

Interesting ...I have a 2003 206 and I also have had the boat shut off a couple of times (at low speeds) and a couple of other times the gauges flashed but stayed on.
I have it on my list of things to have the dealer check at the end of the season
I also have an LED gauge that is not always readable (on the tach gauge)

I hope these are minor problems as other have noted is probably the case

I would fix the intermittent stop real soon. You don't want the boat to cut out while pulling a skier or in the middle of a good day. If you want, I can explain to you what to do. It is really easy. The gauge will probably be swapped out for a new one.

If the intermittent cutting out is what I think it is, it is your relays. Open your engine hatch and remove the thumbscrews for the grey plastic cover. Toward the back, you will see a set of 3 relays. You need to pull each of them apart and check the connectors in there. You can use a paper clip or something similar to adjust the connections. This will fix that problem. Sorry I don't have any pictures, otherwise I would post them. You can probably get your dealer to fax you a copy of the service bulletin. If you need more help, let me know
