    Newbie Hose Question

    Do you measure the size of a hose from the outside of it or the inside? I attached a picture of my ballast hose, it is 1'' across the outside edges, and 3/4 from the inside. Sorry I am a newb.

      I don't mean to be a pain, but please make sure you know which hose that is, and where it comes from and leads to, becasue if you happened to have taken that hose from one of the thru hull fittings on the side where both the bilge pump and the ballast overflow are located side by side, you'll see 2 sizes of hose, and at least on the later models I have been working with, I believe the smaller (.75") is from the bilge pump and the larger (1") is from the ballast tank overflow. (So you'd be disabling the bilge if you are removing the wrong hose.) Take a second and trace it back just to be sure.

        That hose is connected to a T that comes off a tsunami fill pump. So that is a 3/4'' hose?

          Hose = measured by ID
          Pipe = measured by ID
          Tubing = measured by OD

                Did I get that backwards? Ha. It appears I did. I should have remembered... I used oddball 2.5" PVC for my vent piping (2.875" OD) to line up with my 3" dryer hoses. Its not exact, but pipe ID is generally much closer to "nominal" size.

                That was the part I didnt screw up above.

                Hose=measured on ID
                Tubing=measured on OD

                This makes it easy when putting a section of tubing in line with hose (like putting some stainless tubing section in place of mufflers on a classic CC). It makes it a little more difficult to put in copper pipe in the same place... that has an OD of 3-1/8". Not fun stuffing that into a 3" ID hose.

                  Yes, assuming that is factory, then that is 3/4" hose.

                  However, that hose does not look factory. The factory looks more corrugated. Like the premium hose at wakemakers. It is more bendable. That hose looks more like the less expensive, less plyable, but stronger hose at wakemakers. It also looks like your cooling system hose. You can use that type of hose, but I do not think it is factory. That said, it is hard to tell by the picture.

                    It looks/feels more like the 1'' up at West Marine than the 3/4'' up there, but the inside diameter is def. 3/4
