Hot engine restart issues, pint of water in crankcase during winterize.

I am a new member to this forum.

I have a 1990 Sport that I purchased new. Earlier on, I replaced the points with electronic ignition. No problems until three summers ago in 2009 when I started to have occasional (usually over 85 degrees and humid) hot engine restart issues (it started fine after cool down) and, during winterize I found a pint of water in the crankcase.

Regrettably, without doing much research I had the head gasket replaced during the off-season.

In 2010 ongoing occasional restart (again hot and humid) issues. Replaced battery, plugs. coil, cap and rotor, ignition wires, alternator and removed and cleaned all electrical connections I could get at. In hindsight I did not use a clear container to change my oil at winterize. Don't know if I had water.

In 2011 restart issues progressively worse. I bypassed the ballast resistor and restart issues significantly better but not gone. Boat temperature at 190-200 degrees at restart for 5-10 seconds then normal at 160. Over time, the manifolds have collected rust and metal and may need to be removed and cleaned and replace gaskets?? Lastly, the 2011 winterize resulted in a pint of water in the crankcase again. So much for the head gasket!!

Any comment or help would be welcome.

Are you having a hot cranking [starter slow to spin the engine over] or hot starting problem [ turns over fine just wont start]? Is the water mixing in the oil ? How do you know its a pint?

It is a hot starting problem. It is as the plugs are not firing or the fuel is not getting into the engine.

When I drain the oil in the fall, I use a clear one gallon container. The water is at the bottoms and not mixed. I estimate a pint based on the level of water in the container.

      Thanks for your response.

Dave, post your question on Correctcraftfan as well to help you get a few more replies. Most there are a little more knowledgeable with the older boats while the guys here know more about all the new stuff Either way, good choice asking for help. Good luck!
