The block doesn't need to be drained nightly, if you ski late into the fall (or early spring) like we do. Basically an easier winterization process. Also, heater works better with closed cooling, even when you add the Y adapter to a fresh water version. If you run in any salt, it's definitely the way to go.
For long term- The higher and more consistent temperature in an engine, and protection from lake contaminants could potentially add some life expectancy to a motor.
I thought higher heat was not the greatest for an engine.... I'm sure though that it helps give more complete combustion in the newer motors.... Just my opinion. I have never had problems (put high hours on boats) with raw water cooling and constant 165-180 temps.... I look at it as the closed cooling system is just another maintenance item.... But in Fla. we don't need to drain the block...

I'm jealous... I'll be draining my block tonight after skiing, as we're supposed to 26 degrees tonight.
