    2008 SANTE 210: Re-propped to ACME 1235, now porpoising - please help

My 2008 SANTE 210 originally had the ACME 1579 "power-prop" and I added the Wake Makers Fly High kit about 6 months ago (two 400lbs in the rear lockers and ~650 integrated sac to the front). First time out fully ballasted, I hit a roller and it started porpoising and took about 10 oscillations to settle back down. A Nautique rep told me that I didn't have enough front weight (the integrated sac probably only fills 3/4 of the way at best in a 210 due to the lack of room under the front seats) and to add the Fly High Tube Sac (~ 370lbs) to the ski locker. I did this and it solved the trick. No more porpoising when fully ballasted.

However, this week I repropped to the ACME 1235 prop (because I dinged up my 1579 on my dad's low lake) and now I'm porpoising again with all four sacs full at 22.0 - 23.5 mph. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? I am not sure why the bigger prop has now caused my boat to start porpoising when it didn't before with the 1579 prop once I added the tube sac. Do I need to change my Zero Off antena to the new gyroscope style antena and update my Zero Off software now? I was told about 8-10 months ago (before I added the Fly High kit) that if you do run the Fly High, you need to then go 1235 prop, new ZO antena and updated ZO software to get everything to work optimally.

Thanks guys - appreciate any help.

Some say the 1235 will promote gel coat burn while others say it doesnt.

The new antena & software upgrade will fix the porposing. It was a warranty thing a few years back.
It will be a different boat & youll wonder why you waited so long to do it..............

yes have your dealer change software and antenna had to do the same thing. the 1235 prop will not promote gel coat burn, people told me the same thing, I check everyday for a year never saw a thing

Was the antenna and zero off issue specific to that year? Have they fixed it on the newer ones?

They didn't find the problem until 2009 or finally took it seriously that the zero off had a problem.

First off, I have the same boat, 08 210 SANTE with about the same weight in it. I have wedge sacks in the back instead of normal sacks, along with some 45lb plates to make up the difference.

1.) Could you take a picture of your new 1235 prop with a ruler behind it, showing the distance from the prop blade to the hull? My 1579 only has about 3/4" so I have been hesitant to upgrade.

2.) I have constantly dealt with a wake "shape" issue. The port wake is very "mellow" and "rampy", where the starboard wake is more abrupt and peaky. You definately get a bigger kick of the starboard wake. The weight is balanced, and I have tried multiple different variations on weighting, but I can't seem to affect this wake "shape". The lip on each side is smooth with no froth, and the rooster tail is perfectly centered, just the wakes are different. The only thing that I can think of is that I have an issue with the prop, but I didn't want to buy a new prop just to troubleshoot this. Anybody else with an 08 210 ever seen this?

chad - i have the same prop. Not sure if our weight is the same. But here is a close pic of my starboard wake with the boat somewhat sacked(~ 1000 -1200 above internal ballast). Does your wake look like this?
                Or is it rampier(less lip)?

Thanks for all of the responses to my post guys - appreciate all the help. Sounds like I'm in for a new antena and software upgrade. Anybody know how much $ I'm looking at for this manuever from the dealer? Also, is this a complicated ordeal for the dealer to do? My dealer doesn't appear to be too savy, so I'm a little relunctant to take it to him.

Regarding the gel coat burn issue, before I bought the 1235, I called ACME and talked to them for a while. The guy I talked to said that it will definitely cause gel coat burn after about a year. He said that most people just use a gel coat kit and fix it when it starts to bother them. He also said that the Nautique factory runs the 1235 on their 210(s) because the performance is just so much better with the 1235 and its worth it to them for the gel coat burn issue. The last thing he said that I could do is put on the 1235, wait a year until the gel coat burn shows up, then take the boat to someone that does gel coat work and have the guy bore out a 3"x3" area where the burn is showing up on the hull - then have a piece of aluminum epoxied in place flush with the hull. Then there will be no more gel coat burn.

Chat - I have never really had any problem ballancing out my wake side to side while running either stock (which I run 75% of the time) ballast or with the Fly High System filled. If it is just me riding and someone driving (which is about 50% of the time - my dad drives for me), then I just add a little bit of the rear Fly High port side sac if I'm running only stock ballast to offset the driver's weight OR if I'm running full Fly High, I'll empty a little bit of the rear Fly High starboard side sac to compensate for driver weight.

I'd be happy to take a pic of the 1235 prop on it once I get it back on the trailer (later part of this week - its on a friend's lift right now). Can also take a few pics of my ballast set up.

Chad - also my wakes appear to be identically shaped. Both of them seem kind of rampy when I have the shift gate all the way forward, but then they get more vert/peaky when I pull the shift gate all the way towards the rear of the boat (position #3 I think).

                      migs,

I'm assuming you mean port side by the pic? My wake is more rampy than yours on that side.

Anyone know ballpark how much a new ZO antena and software upgrade from the Dealer will run me? Also, out of curiousity, how is the new Garmin ZO antena different from my 2008 Garmin antena? I've seen them before, they're rectangular instead of round - and a Nautique rep said it had a gyroscope in it as well. Seems interesting, so just wanted to know a little bit more about it and how it will help my porpoising problem. Thanks guys.

INST_0009_How to Install New Antenna and Harness Upgrade to Solve Porpoising Issue.pdf

Not sure of what the cost is now, but I was doing some research on this a couple of years back. Here is the instructions for how to do the upgrade. I decided at the time that it wasn't worth the money as I didn't have the porposing issue all that often and I just killed it off by pushing the hydroplate forward when I did start porposing.
