02 SAN belly ballast tank pump

    Hey lads,
Done a bit of searching but came up with nothing. My belly tank drain pump is playing up in my 02 SAN and I have a new one to fit, does anyone know how to replace it? It's at the lowest rear part of tank pretty much resting on the bilge of the boat. I can't rotate it to remove it from tank because it won't spin all the way round without the hose outlet hitting the boat!
    Anyone else done this?

That's a good question. Stupid tanks. I don't know if it would work but what about using the quick disconnect parts from wake makers. You wouldn't screw directly into the tank but I wonder if you can't get male and female connectors that would allow you to construct a workaround. Insert the connectors, which should be able to be screwed in, and then simply snap to connect.

Unfortunately, attwood quit making the pumps in that style and went to a cartridge style. If you have the old style pump and somehow acquired an old style pump to replace it, you would remove the set screw in the side and turn the motor 1/8 turn counterclockwise and slide the motor out of the base.

The new ones are similar but are easier to work with.

If you have to retrofit a new one to replace an old one, I would get the motor off of the old base first, then try to remove the base and replace with a new style pump.

The old ones were 700 gph and the new ones 750 gph if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys, I was thinking of using some fittings or quick connects to mount the new pump.
Just finding it difficult to see how to remove the old one the stupid thing literally lays flush on the bilge of the boat. Might just have to destroy it to get it out of there

The pump in my 04 may be a different setup than yours, I'm not sure. But to change out that pump on my boat I wound up loosining the two brackets that hold the center balast tank in place. These two brackets are located at the two top rear corners of the center tank. This allowed me to lift the tank about 1 inch. That was enough to allow me to change the pump out.

That is the answer, you will need to do that to put the new pump in as well, even though the new style have removable motor cartridge the body still has the hose arm
