    Red engine light

Hi, I have a 2007 210 with the 330 excalibur, went out today and the engine was idleing a bit rough.Powered up with full ballast was a bit sluggish but no misses.Travelled for about 5 minutes and the red engine light came on. Did not go into limp mode. Throttled back light goes out.Temps and pressures seem fine.Light only comes on when doing 3000 to 4000 revs soon as you back of the plane light goes out. Only seems to not idle smoothly some times and lack a bit of holeshot. Any body have any ideas on what the problem might be. Thanks

You need to read the camshaft retard bulletin and see if you are in it.

You don't say how many hours you have....if more than 100, you should pull your distributor cap off and inspect. Vacuum off all the metal fuzzies and give it a try. If you have a cap and rotor, just replace the them while you are there. I'm at 325 and probably on borrowed time. I meant to do that as a winter job and, well, you know how that goes.

Be careful when you put the screws back in, the ears on the dist'r are plastic. I broke one off on the 5.7 (Excalibur - just kidding) in my Tahoe and I went back with a billet aluminum Accel to eliminate that problem.

Already replaced cap and rotor but no change. Motor has done 350 hrs. I no what you mean about the dissy ears, one broke but managed to get a nut and bolt to hold it down.

A good reason to do that job in the winter....to avoid possible down time.

Check your knock sensor make sure it is hooked up and properly tightened.

That's a good point especially if it was winterized. If so, make sure there is no teflon tape or pipe dope that would insulate the treads and open the circuit.

pdnaut - did you read up on the camshaft retard recall? ....are you in it?

Air tool, checked the cam retard bulletin, mine does not apply. Pulled some plugs out and think I might have a leaking riser, plugs looking a bit rusty, so this may be the problem. Will also check the knock sensor.
