Impeller o-ring grease/lube

Hey Guys,

So I noticed when pulling the impeller out last Fall to winterize that they used a light red grease on the o ring inside the RWP, anyone know what brand/type that is? Its on a 2006 Excal 330 196.

I little water based personal lubricant works well on these sorts of things and will not degrade the rubber.

So do you guys keep the personal lubricant next to the boot lube in the rear storage compartment??? You guys must subscribe to the "be prepared" motto...

In all seriousness, I had heard that petroleum based grease is fine for o-rings and I would surmise its better than a water based since that will get dissolved through usage?

In the past, when I ordered impellers from SkiDim, they would occasionally show up with a little plastic pouch of "water based lubricant." So, if that's what the manufacturer was suggesting (at one point) to help ease the impeller into the housing, it's good enough for me.

And, no, I don't keep it in the boat. I keep it in the bed side table. If I have any trouble on the water, a little soapy water will suffice to keep things in place and help ease the impeller into the housing.

For reinstalling the impeller I use the same soapy water trick you do to get it in there and keep it lubricated until the RWP is fully primed when I dewinterize. I was only looking to continue using the same grease already in play for the o-ring as in that application I don't want it dissolving - maybe it doesn't matter though given it will stay wet.

One CC dealer (can't remember who, it was so long ago) told me to use castor oil as it wouldn't degrade the rubber.

I was told to use silicone spray. I changed an impellar once. And it worked.
