Perfect Pass - funny issue

Hey chaps.

First post;

Having a few funnies with the 2008 perfect pass system (not stargazer), its engaging fine, and works great about 60-70% of the time, however every so often it flashes up underspeed (#), and then proceeds to up the throttle, despite being at the correct speed. Here's an example,

- Speed set at 35kph
- Accelerate to 35kph and speed held fine.... until
- PP flashes # despite running at target speed,
- PP then accelerated upwards, near 40-42kph before # dissapears.
- PP then holds speed at 38-39 kph.
- Then if you turn the PP off and back on it settles back down to 35kph


Seems strange to me, as the read out on the unit is showing the correct speed at all times...

Any ideas?

The # symbol is telling you that PP needs more manual throttle than you have given it. When accelerating push the throttle lever past the PP engagement speed so that if PP needs to accelerate the boat you have manually given it the ability to do so. In other words when PP engages (beeps) push the throttle lever further forward than you have been doing.

Multi line display even tells you # then more throttle.

I'll try going a bit further on the throttle... but surely that doesn't account for why the PP continues to show the # even when it has climbed to about 42kph! I could understand it if it was under-powered and under-speed, but under-powered and above speed doesn't seem to make much sense?

Its a new boat to me with a different PP to that I'm not used to, however I have quite alot of experience with the MC and Mali systems... so I could well be totally wrong, just seems really odd.

Another thing I probably should have mentioned is that it seems to be quite aggressive when the PP kicks in - IE even if you slowly accelerate to speed it suddenly drops the speed when PP engages before pulling it back up again...

Call PP, they have excellent customer service! They will solve your problem.

Try doing a system reset and see how it reacts then. Resetting the system should reset the kdw and NN settings .Sounds like the kdw or NN setting are set wrong. This can make it react more aggressive. Usually have it set aggressive for heavier ballast boats.

It will tell you in the pp manual how to reset. If you don't have the manual it can be downloaded from the pp website.

Like H2O said, contact PP. I had some problems with the PP on my Bu and they were awesome to deal with. Maybe the best customer service I've ever seen!

When mine gives me the more throttle message, it won't go off until its back to speed, sounds like yours is working correct just needs some better settings to smooth it out a little. If your trying not to overshoot the speed initially, do what you've been doing, once it slows the 1st time then bump the throttle up while it's coming back up to speed. We try not to overshoot as well because the PP will just kill the trottle to slow down which makes the foil run right into slack rope in the water if the rider isn't paying attention. Play with it a little, once you learn when to give it extra you can stabilize it pretty quick and never get more than 1mph from your set point.
