    Bad Fuel Consumption

I have a 2001 Pro Air Nautique w/GT-40 and I seem to be having REALLY bad gas consumption. I use 87 octane but recently switched to 89 to see if that would help. Not Working!!! The boats operating temp is about 130-140. I know that they usually run about 160. Don't know if there's a problem with the fuel cell or fuel filter. Motor runs great, just eats a ton of gas. I can run about 6 hours on a full tank and no weight at all. My friends Air 211 and Super Air can go all day with 1500 lbs of weight and still have gas left over. Also noticed a little oily residue on the corner of my gas tank. Don't know if I have a small leak. No smell of gas. Last thing is when I fill the boat up at the gas station, gas will overflow from the vent if I try to fill it to the rim. It doesn't stop for a while. I've had to do some major cleaning at a few gas stations. Input Needed!!

    RE: Bad Fuel Consumption

skidim sells a fuel/air seperator. It costs about $45 and installs in your vent hose. I had the same problem with my last boat and this part solved the problem. Worth the money. As far as fuel consumption, is your tank the same size as theirs. Being fuel injected, you may have a sensor that is bad. You should be able too smell the rich fuel mixture if it is consuming that much fuel.

Change the thermostat. Get the engine to run at 160. Maybe the computor is reading the low temp. and wideing the pulse width on the injectors thinking that the engine is still cold. Also remember no 2 engines are alike.

If your T-stat is bad and not allowing it to get 160 the computer is calling for more fuel. Put a t-stat in and it should be O.K. If for some reason it does not stop it, at least your motor is running at the correct temp. It's kind of like running a carb motor with the choke on all the time!

Change your Thermostat, running your engine at 130 to 140 will increase your fuel consumption by 25 to 35%.....
