I have a 1998 Nautique with the GT40 engine, 406 hours. I am going to try to describe my problem as best i can. Here we go, the engine will start and run great until it reaches around 2100-2200 RPM's and then it is as if it has a rev limiter on it, it doesnt go dead it just looses power, misses, cuts out sounds like a "chip" reaching its limit. If you pull the throttle back to below or near 2000 RPM it will run smooth (at a whole 7 MPH)
The check engine light is not on and hasnt been on. If you rev the boat in netural it will go well above 2200 RPM and seems to be smooth. I can also go in reverse well above 2200 RPM.
It only does this under load going in forward. I was thinking it was a fuel pressure issue so when i got the boat home i checked it and at idle i have 38psi. I couldnt check the fuel pressure at load since it was in the yard with a water hose connected to it. Has anyone had anything like this or does anyone have suggestions as to what to check? The repair shop cannot even take the boat for 3 more weeks and it wants to go to the lake!
